Why Our EPP Bumper Tooling Project Moved from Munich to Nantong

The decision came down to one number: 11 weeks. That was the time Bainuo committed to delivering a cycle-tested EPP bumper mould ready for serial production — about half the time the Munich toolmaker had quoted, with comparable quality documentation.

The diary entry lays out the rest of the comparison: identical cavity simulation reports, identical steel grades, identical sample dimensional layouts. The only meaningful difference was lead time, cost and the willingness of the Chinese shop to host a two-week on-site resident engineer from the German team during mould trials.

The move reflects a broader shift in European sourcing. EPP bumper cores, once built close to the OEM assembly plant, are now frequently tooled in China and shipped as finished moulds or as moulded parts. Bainuo, which already supplies SAIC Volkswagen and other brands directly or indirectly, has been one of the beneficiaries of that shift.
